KUALA LUMPUR: Cooperatives, the Domestic Trade and Consumerism Ministry has set limit costs for 21 kinds of food items under the Hari Raya Puasa price control scheme that was jolly.
Minister Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin said over the previous weeks from observations, most of the 21 things were being sold at a cost that was higher.
For example, the cost of chillies was RM16 last week a kilo in some areas, but it’s now sold a kilo as a result of price control. This demonstrates that there continue to be middlemen who are commanding the costs, which influence the consumers,” here yesterday he said during an inspection at the Chow Kit Market. He said stern measures expected dealers who did not conform to the regulations as stated in the Price Control and Anti-Profiteering Act.
Dealers that are will be compelled to sell things that are restricted below the limit price fixed by the Government and to place a special pink-coloured cost on those things to distinguish them from other things.
Yet, they can be additionally motivated to sell things that were restricted at reduced costs if their supplies come at comparatively cheaper costs, said Hamzah.
Price control officers and ministry enforcement will maintain places like pasar tani, morning marketplaces and public marketplaces to run routine reviews.
