Dar El Ghalia is a princely palace dating from the 18 th century, also known by the name ‘Palais Hadj Omar Lebbar’. The palace is situated in the heart of the Fes medina in the Ras Jnan quarter, a fascinating area full of mystery. It once housed both Arabs and Jews who had escaped the Inquisition in Andalusia . This maison d’h ô te can be recognised by its magnificent green pergolas and is unlike any other. No tiny lanes, no winding streets and no detours. This ancient house dates from the 14 th century and is a jewel in a thousand-year-old jewel box, situated high up and opposite the doors of the Kairouine Mosque. The terrace overlooks the roofs of the city. The work of local artisans is showcased here where there are exhibition rooms of carpets and kelims.
